Many would associate Wisconsin with the state’s dairy cow industry and the cheese those animals produce. But such an agrarian lifestyle isn’t enough to counteract macro levels of stress, apparently.
That’s because the Badger State is among the nation’s most stressed-out locales, according to research by BetWisconsin.com, where you can find coverage of efforts to bring legal Wisconsin sportsbooks to fruition.
April is National Stress Awareness Month. With that in mind, BetWisconsin.com used Google Trends to see which states were most actively seeking “stress reducing.” Then we created a list of the top 10 states that are most stressed out. We also found the top five most calm, cool, and collected states.
This search was conducted between Feb. 25 and March 25, 2024.
Based on this research, Mississippi has the most stressed-out residents, while Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and South Dakota all have the most relaxed locals.
Nationally, Wisconsin residents had the 10th highest search interest score when it came to topics surrounding stress reduction, coming in at 8 and ranking behind No. 9 Alaska, which had a score of 10. One way to relax might be to take in a film; check out our list of best movies shot in Wisconsin.
Overall, Mississippi (100 search interest score) and Virginia (38 score) were the nation’s most stressed-out states, followed by New Jersey (26), Delaware and Texas (16 each), Florida (12), North Dakota (11) and Alaska (10).
On the flip side? Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and Idaho all were tied for the title of being the least stressed-out states in America, all with search interest scores of zero. Massachusetts was the next closest, with a score of four.
As summer approaches and Americans seek to unwind, it seems like Wisconsin residents could take a page out of the playbook that a quartet of western states have in place for stress reduction.
