Where Do The Green Bay Packers Land Among Most Restless NFL Fanbases?
Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

Health experts recommend adults sleep at least seven hours per night but for some NFL fans that advice seems to go unheeded.  BetWisconsin.com utilized Statista’s 2022 “Hours of Sleep” survey of NFL fans with 1,020 respondents to find which NFL fanbases currently claim to be the most “restless.” This sample just includes people who stated they were fans of a specific NFL team. The percentage displayed represents how many respondents from each fanbase “sleep on average 6 hours or less a night.”

Below can see how well Green Bay Packers fans are sleeping ahead of the 2023 season. Something you wouldn't find on Wisconsin sportsbooks even when they eventually become legal.

Aaron Rodgers' Departure Could Explain Restlessness Among Cheeseheads

Losing a legend at quarterback and replacing him with a first-time starter sure can keep a fanbase up at night.  A reported 13 percent of Green Bay Packers fans fail to average six hours of sleep per night, a top five mark among all NFL fanbases and the highest rate in the NFC North.  Among division rivals, eleven percent of Chicago Bears fans state they usually sleep less than six hours, while five percent of Minnesota Vikings fans and just two percent of Detroit Lions fans say the same.

After an extensive saga over his future, the Packers traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets in April, leaving the team without him or fellow franchise icon Brett Favre under center for the first time since 1991.  Since Rodgers took over for Favre in 2008, he has started 223 of a possible 242 games for Green Bay, throwing for 59055 yards and 475 touchdowns while winning four MVPs during his tenure in Titletown.

What The 2023 Packers Look Like

In Rodgers place, Jordan Love will finally get the call after spending the first three years of his career as a backup following his selection in the first round of the 2020 draft.  Love has seen action in ten games since entering the league but has only made one start back in week 9 of the 2021 season and has attempted just 83 career passes.

Sportsbooks are not feeling good about this transition at quarterback, as DraftKings places the Packers over/under win total at only 7.5, tied with the Bears for the lowest number of any NFC North team.  Per SportsOddsHistory.com, that is Green Bay’s worst preseason over/under projection since 2007.

Additionally, DraftKings puts the Packers playoff chances at just +180.  It is the first time they have been even money or above to make the playoffs since 2009.

If quarterback issues were not enough, there is another reason that could be negatively impacting the sleep of Green Bay fans.  According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Wisconsin leads the nation in rates of excess alcohol consumption, with 23.8 percent of adults in the Badger State engaging in either binge or heavy drinking within the month surveyed.

Although alcohol can make falling asleep easier for some, excess drinking disrupts sleep quality as the night goes on, which can lead to premature waking and daytime fatigue.  So maybe think about cutting back on the booze before the Packers kick off the season against the Bears on September 10th if you want to sleep better Cheeseheads. Jokes aside, maybe the Packers Super Bowl odds could be the leading cause of restlessness in Green Bay.
